West Beach Drive Multi-Use Sidewalk Project

*The deadline to submit comments to be included in the initial public comment summary by the project team is 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, November 3, 2023.

The City of Panama City received an $8 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to construct a 12-foot-wide multi-use sidewalk on West Beach Drive from Frankford Avenue to 6th Street.

This project is not included in the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) 5-Year Work Program. However, FDOT was granted the funds through a specific Florida Legislature appropriationĀ to award the City the grant to construct the multi-use sidewalk. Based on this, these funds cannot be reappropriated or reassigned.

The goal is to build a scenic waterfront sidewalk along West Beach Drive that increases pedestrian and bike riding connectivity and safety for its users between Downtown Panama City and Historic St. Andrews.

The proposed multi-use sidewalk will be accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists, and non-motorized vehicles. In addition, the multi-use sidewalk features may include low profile lighting, benches, bike racks, water fountains, parking, and emergency call boxes along the pathway.

An Open House will be held on October 24, 2023 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to provide conceptual drawings and project information to the community for review and comments. It will be held at the Bay County Government Center, located at 840 W. 11th Street.
